How to organically treat your lawn and landscape...
If your here and reading this, I don’t have to tell you the importance of organic lawn and garden care. You probably just need some guidance.
Almost twenty years ago, at the Chicago Flower and Garden Show, I listened to Jeff Lowenfels give a lecture on compost tea. It changed my life forever.
He discussed microbiology and why its important in soil. I recommend reading Teaming with Microbes if you want to know more. He wrote it and it’s chock full of microbe talk.
As soon as I got home, a search for compost tea began. Eventually I found a company that takes the “Alaskan Humisoil” that Jeff uses, extracts the microbes in spore form and inoculates them in a carbon base. In turn, I take this mixture and dilute it then brew for eighteen hours which wakes up the microbes so they’re ready to apply to your yard.
Microbes are just one part of the equation. The man that made the concentrate told me once, the soil is the digestive tract of the planet, and is he right. Just like us, the soil needs proper nutrition to keep everything healthy. All the minerals we need, the soil needs so I always add mineral mix to my soil. The microbes eat it up and feed it to the plants.
Thats it for now. Please let me know if you have any questions.
